Ex-coach accused of spying on girls' locker room at Tacoma school

TACOMA, Wash. - A former boys' soccer coach at a private Tacoma high school is facing voyeurism charges following accusations that he watched female students undress in the locker room, according to court documents.

The ex-coach, identified in court documents as Anthony J. Natalie Jr., 38, of Federal Way, was charged in Pierce County Superior Court after the school principal contacted the Sheriff's Office.

According to the case file, two other teachers at Evergreen Lutheran High School in Tacoma became suspicious when they noticed that blinds covering a storage room window to the girls' locker room had been disturbed.

The teachers told Principal Theodore Klug that the blinds appeared to have been tampered with more than once, and always at a time of day when the girls' sports teams were changing for practice.

Klug then set up a surveillance video camera which captured footage of a figure entering the storage room while the girls were changing clothes in the locker room, court documents say.

Klug told police that he recognized the figure as Natalie, so he spoke to him and Natalie admitted it was him in the video, according to the case file. Natalie told Klug that he had only done it a few times recently because he was "curious," court documents say.

Klug then contacted the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, who sent an investigator. The girls' soccer coach told the investigator she first noticed the blinds had been moved about five or six weeks earlier, according to court documents.

Natalie no longer works at Evergreen Lutheran. The school is described on its website as a private Christian school located on a 30-acre campus at 72nd and Waller Road East.

Natalie has no criminal history, according to prosecutors, so he won't face more than 90 days in jail if convicted. But if convicted he would have to register as a sex offender, which police say would affectively end his teaching career.
